About Glenoaks Stables
The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.
Glenoaks Stables is a recognized Pony Club Riding Center offering the national Pony Club curriculum for those who don’t yet own a horse as well as for horse owners. Come join us for fun on and off the horse with an emphasis on safety and horsemanship!
As a Riding Center we operate in partnership with our host facility who provides us with the beautiful space and lesson horses to execute our program. Thank you Isola Riding Academy!
Glenoaks Stables meets for two 5-month sessions with Spring Session starting in January and Fall Session starting in August with a break for summer camps. Each session consists of 10 meetings every other Sunday from 2-5pm at Glenoaks Equestrian Center in Portola Valley. Meetings are a combination of mounted riding instruction and/or Horse Management instruction.
**Due to COVID-19 we have a modified social distancing meeting schedule with 3 separate groups coming individually to the barn either Saturdays 2-5pm (Group 2) or Sundays 2-6pm (Groups 1&3)**
We offer the Pony Club D program to youth interested in taking their riding and horsemanship to the next level.
Pony Club is a great next step, and meant to be an addition to a regular riding program, a time for members to focus their skills and apply what they work on in their regular lessons to the Pony Club curriculum, which has a big emphasis on horsemanship and safety. Pony Club Riding Centers, like ours, are great for those who may not have a horse or pony of their own yet and want to learn to ride and develop their skills while exploring a variety of disciplines and knowledge. Some of our members are relatively beginner and are learning the ropes with us in Pony Club, but you need to come in with basic steering skills (being able to walk, turn, and stop on their own confidently, ideally trotting independently as well) as we run our meeting with group lessons and cannot give 1 on 1 attention to a complete beginner.
Our certifications are focused on the Hunt Seat Equitation track with options to pursue HM only and Dressage as well. Throughout our mounted meetings, members will also be able to discover a variety of disciplines to include Show Jumping, Dressage, and Mounted Games! Through various volunteer opportunities as well as Regional activities and events, members can learn about other disciplines such as Eventing, Tetrathlon, and Quiz.
